Applications for review and certification by the UBC Biosafety Committee must be submitted electronically through RISe [insert link: https://rise.ubc.ca]. Researchers must provide complete information about the biological materials to be used, including their Risk Groups and Containment Levels, as well as a Biosecurity Plan (more details below). Applications should also describe laboratory procedures, containment measures, personnel training, and emergency protocols to ensure safe and compliant handling of all biological materials. Additional supporting documentation, such as SOPs, equipment specifications, and any regulatory approvals, should be included to demonstrate adherence to UBC policies and applicable regulations.
The Biosafety Committee reviews each application to ensure that research activities can be conducted safely, securely, and in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements. Applications will only be approved once all requirements are satisfactorily met. Researchers are responsible for updating their applications if the scope of work changes or if new biological materials are introduced.
