After You Have Initial Ethics Approval

All progress reports, new information, or amendments to an approved study must be submitted and approved by the REB using the Post Approval Activity (PAA) application form within RISe.

There are four different types of Post Approval Activities that can be submitted. Each has its own coversheet tailored to the PAA purpose. The current webpage is meant to provide researchers with an overview of the different types of PAAs including when and how to submit them.

If you have any questions about the post approval process, please contact allison.stewartgomes@ubc.ca

Turnaround time
The turnaround time for PAAs varies according to the time of year (e.g. vacations, conferences, teaching commitments) and the volume of applications received. On average you can expect an initial response within one to two weeks.

How to check the status of your PAA
You can see the status of your PAA by what is displayed in the upper left corner of the PAA home page under Current State. All PAAs begin in the Pre Submission stage and will not be reviewed by the REB until submitted (as indicated by the REBA Screening state). Once in the REBA Screening state, your PAA will be assigned for review. Once reviewed, your PAA will either be approved or changes/comments will be requested.

The Types of Post Approval Activities
UBC allows four different types of Post Approval Activities (PAA). Each PAA has a different purpose including to renew, make changes, terminate your application, and inform the REB of protocol deviations. The four specific types of PAAs are as follows.
