CREB Fees

A fee for ethical review applies only to sponsored research studies (i.e., those funded by industry or for-profit sponsors).

Sponsored Research Fees

Effective September 01, 2025 all new applications for ethics review will be charged an increased initial ethical review fee of $5,000.00 and subsequent annual renewals will be charged a fee of $1,500.00.

*Note that these fee amounts apply to all new applications submitted after September 1, 2025.  All privately sponsored studies submitted prior to September 1st, 2025 will continue to be charged the current ethical review fees of $3,500 for initial approval and $750.00 for annual renewals.

All privately sponsored studies submitted prior to April 1st, 2019 will continue to be charged $3,000 for initial approval and $500.00 for annual renewals.

These fees reflect the increasing complexity of REB applications which require additional REB time and resources for conducting initial and continuing reviews of studies, including continuous monitoring and oversight of active studies throughout the year. The Principal Investigator must ensure the sponsor is aware of these fees.

The Certificate of Approval will not be released until the review fee has been received. If you have outstanding fees, no new REB reviews will be undertaken until your account is brought into good standing.

A fee for ethical review applies only to sponsored research studies (i.e. those funded by industry or for-profit sponsors whether minimal risk or above minimal risk).

To review the fee/invoices status of an application please login to RISe and select your application.  Once you are in the application, please review the [Invoices] tab to view invoices issued and status of fee payment.  Please see here for a video
